The HIT-AIR airbag vest HAS BECOME ESSENTIAL OVER THE YEARS
Hit-Air has been the pioneering Japanese brand of wired inflatable protection systems for motorcyclists and equestrians for over 25 years.
The airbag vest is to the torso what the helmet is to the head.
Hit-Air airbag vests are still distinguished today by their initially patented design, which covers the most vulnerable areas of the torso as much as possible: spine, from the cervical vertebrae to the tailbone, chest, pelvis, and floating ribs. Beyond the safety it provides, it is a lightweight, ergonomic, and easy-to-use product.
Our airbag vests are equipped with a CO2 cartridge and a connection strap that must be attached to the motorcycle frame, generally under the seat and in front of the rider's seat. In the event of a fall, when the rider falls, the cable separates from the motorcycle, which activates the CO2 cartridge and instantly inflates the vest or jacket. Depending on the size, it takes between 100 and 200 milliseconds for the airbag to fully deploy and offer additional protection to the most vulnerable parts of the body (the spine, neck, ribs, collarbone).
Once inflated, the air in the vest acts like a shield, absorbing part of the energy from the shockwave created upon impact. It therefore provides significant additional protection. Of course, it does not replace mandatory equipment such as helmets and gloves, or highly recommended gear (motorcycle jackets, boots, trousers).
Back protectors are essential safety equipment for all motorcyclists. An airbag vest can be worn in addition to a back protector to offer complete protection. While the back protector protects against penetrating impacts, the airbag protects against impacts with a large contact surface. Proof of its effectiveness, the airbag vest has been used in MotoGP for years and even became mandatory in 2018. It is positioned around the back, shoulders, and rib cage inside the suit.
Many cross-country riders have been wearing airbag vests for many years. This type of safety equipment has now become widespread. It is now found in many other equestrian disciplines: endurance, show jumping, eventing, trekking... Traditional body protectors protect against blunt trauma and reduce penetrating injuries to the torso and ribs. Inflatable vests were specifically designed to reduce "crushing" injuries to the chest and back. These two protections are therefore complementary and highly recommended in all disciplines.
