FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Our Products
We invite you to refer to the size guides available on our product pages.
To determine the vest size that best suits your figure, you must first consider your height, which should fall within the recommended size range, and then your measurements. Measurements should be taken over your riding clothes. If in doubt or if you are between two sizes, our team is available to advise you.
For an ideal fit, the vest should not be too loose or too tight. Our vests are equipped with an internal adjustable belt at the hips, which can be adapted to each body type. Ideally, there should be a similar gap around the chest and waist so that the vest lies flat and thus avoids over-stressing certain seams.
It is also possible to add our extension buckles, which clip on at the front to gain up to an additional 15cm in circumference. This is very practical during the off-season when wearing a thick jacket or coat under your airbag, or if the width of the vest is too tight.
Since the attachment systems are different, you will simply need to invest in accessories compatible with your equestrian discipline: the all-in-one girth, which combines the tie-down strap and the saddle girth.
We recommend storing and maintaining your equipment with the utmost care to preserve its lifespan for as long as possible.
It is advisable to clean it regularly with a damp soft brush or to use a sponge with a little soapy water to prevent stubborn stains from deeply embedding into the fabric, and to let it dry on a hanger. Our products should under no circumstances be put in the washing machine, tumble dryer, or immersed in water, as this risks damaging the metal components and the internal membrane, and impairing the effectiveness of the vest. However, the airbag vest, made of synthetic material, is highly resistant to all types of bad weather.
Between each use, we recommend storing your equipment in a dry place away from heat and humidity. It is also preferable to keep it in its protective cover, flat or hung on a hanger, to avoid folding the inner tube.

After a minor fall, you can rearm your airbag vest mechanism yourself in just a few moments. Here are the steps to follow:
- Unscrew the deployed gas cartridge.
2. Completely empty the air inside the airbag. To do this, place the vest on a flat surface and apply pressure to each cushion to release the CO2.
3. Tuck in the airbag cushions and close the snap fasteners or Velcro straps, depending on your model.
4. Insert the screw (provided with your equipment) into the hole under the housing and start screwing by hand, then continue using the Allen key (also provided) until the receptacle is low enough to accommodate the ball-key.
5. Position the ball-key inside the receptacle. The ring must be fully inserted and flat.
6. Lower the red ring (if your vest has one) or hold the ball with your fingers while unscrewing and removing the screw with the Allen key. Then raise the red ring to the high position so as not to obstruct the ejection of the ball-key in the event of deployment.
7. Screw in a new cartridge, ensuring that the seal is intact (not pierced).
In the event of a significant fall that has heavily stressed the airbag vest fabric, we recommend that you send it to us for a complete inspection of your equipment.

An indicative shelf life of 5 years is mentioned on the cartridge labels; however, this does not mean they expire afterwards, and they can be used beyond this period.
In this case, a visual inspection should be carried out to ensure there are no signs of abnormal wear (rust, corrosion, damaged seal, etc.). It is also recommended to weigh the cartridge, referring to the reference weight indicated on our website, to ensure there is no gas loss.
For your information, here are the weights of our different cartridges:
- 30cc cartridges weigh 96g gross and contain 24g of CO².
- 48cc cartridges weigh 146g gross and contain 30g of CO².
- 50cc cartridges weigh 156g gross and contain 38g of CO².
- 60cc cartridges weigh 186g gross and contain 45g of CO².
- 100cc cartridges weigh 270g gross.
Hit-Air cartridges are recyclable and must follow a specific treatment process. To do this, go to one of our partner saddleries to drop off your empty cartridge and you will receive an immediate discount on the purchase of a new one.

NOOOO!!! You must only use Hit Air cartridges because the metal quality and the seal (size, thickness, etc.) are adapted and developed specifically for Hit Air brand vests. Using the wrong cartridge (another brand and/or wrong CO² weight) can pose a significant risk to the vest wearer (non-deployment of the airbag during a fall, damage to the firing pin of the housing, etc.) and will void the vest's warranty.
Therefore, we strongly advise against using cartridges from a competing brand (Clack air, Kimee, etc.) as these have not been tested and validated by our manufacturer, and we cannot guarantee that they are perfectly compatible with our vests. While the price may seem attractive, it can prove problematic. In the best case, the airbag may potentially function correctly, but this risks prematurely damaging the firing pin inside the housing and causing damage to the vest (which would then require costly repairs).
An example of an unsuitable cartridge that was not struck, so the vest did not deploy:

NOOOON!! Using an unsuitable rearming screw will cause your case to break. Indeed, for several years now we have ensured that a single rearming screw can be suitable for our different vest models. However, an old vest model (Original "SV2 / LV") requires a different rearming screw (silver) because its case is very different from the others.
If you try to rearm your airbag vest with the silver screw when your usual screw is black, your case will break. Indeed, the silver screw is longer and will therefore break the internal mechanism of your case.
Also, we have different key-balls. It is essential to select the key-ball adapted to your vest in order to be able to use your airbag vest.

The cartridge is not pierced when screwed into the canister. It is simply in place and therefore remains new and sealed until it is pierced during a fall. It's just like a light bulb screwed into its socket that will work when you flip the switch. It is therefore perfectly possible to remove the cartridge safely by unscrewing it.
Like a car seatbelt, connecting and disconnecting the tether quickly becomes a habit.
When dismounting your motorcycle, a reminder force will prompt you to disconnect.
On horseback, as the height is different, forgetting to disconnect could trigger the system. However, a force of 25 to 30 kg minimum is required for the key ball to dislodge and activate the mechanism.
When traveling by plane, it is of course possible to take your airbag and 3-4 cartridges in your checked luggage, ensuring they are separated from the airbag vest. However, it is necessary to notify the airline in advance to obtain their authorization.
A safety data sheet may be requested, in which case we invite you to contact us via the following address: contact@hit-air-france.fr. We will then be able to send you this document to present to the airline beforehand.

Our products are designed to last for several years with normal use and proper maintenance. If you have any doubts about the functioning of your equipment, we offer an Expert Assessment service in which our After-Sales Service team performs a thorough diagnosis of the vest and its components, and checks its performance level to ensure it is still operational.
More information on our Expert Assessment Service page.
We recommend having your airbag vest serviced every 2 to 3 years, depending on the frequency of use. If the vest is triggered very frequently (several times a month), annual servicing may be considered.
In case of doubt and/or after a fall, we strongly recommend having your airbag vest checked by our after-sales service team.
We provide after-sales service and repairs, including for vests purchased second-hand, with the sole difference that the warranty will not apply.
If you wish to resell your vest, we offer an appraisal service to ensure that it is fully functional. A certificate is sent to you after the appraisal, certifying that the airbag vest has been tested by us before return, and that it is perfectly operational as a used vest to optimally fulfill its protective role.
Find more information in our After-Sales Service section, under the "Appraisal Service" tab.
If you have any problem with your airbag vest, please fill out our after-sales service form available on the repair service page. You can also send us an email (contact@hit-air-france.fr) with a photo if you wish. Please note that it is mandatory to fill out our after-sales service form so that we can repair your airbag vest.
Our airbag vests are guaranteed for 2 years on the parts related to the casing and the internal membrane of the airbag, under normal use of the product. Repairs or replacement of these parts are therefore covered by the warranty, unless the failure is due to misuse or mishandling after purchase.
However, textile repairs are not covered by your vest's warranty.
Don't worry, the damaged red ring does not hinder the proper functioning of the airbag. It mainly serves to ensure, when you replace a cartridge after a fall, that the ball is correctly inserted into its receptacle at the bottom of the housing. However, you must ensure that the red ring is always in the "high" position so that the airbag can function correctly in the event of a fall.
Therefore, this is not a manufacturing defect; the red ring is deliberately made of plastic to yield if it is positioned over the key ball, allowing the key ball to be expelled and trigger the mechanism despite everything.
But if you prefer, you can send your airbag back to our offices so that we can change the red ring. This service is free, regardless of the age of the vest.
Please note that your vest can be used without this red ring; it works equally well with or without it. You can also rearm it without its help; simply hold the key ball with your finger instead of using the red ring.
The red ring can be damaged for various reasons. Firstly, there is the natural wear and tear of the component, which, through repeated use, will eventually become damaged and break. Another more common scenario occurs when the ring is left in the down position (over the key-ball) after rearming. In such a case, if the user falls, the red ring has no choice but to break to allow the key-ball to be released and the vest to inflate properly. Finally, the ring can also break due to impact. Indeed, during a fall, a direct impact on this part of the vest can damage it.
The fabric and stitching threads used on our vests are designed and engineered to withstand inclement weather and strong, repeated tensile force. However, the fabric can get damaged or the seams can give way for various reasons:
- A vest that is too small or too tight. If the size is no longer suitable, or if the internal belt is too tight, the fabric and seams will be subjected to excessive pressure during a fall. It is not uncommon to then observe tears in certain areas near the adjustment points of the vest. This is because when inflated, the vest will take up more space and will need room to inflate completely. When space is restricted, the membrane (air bladder) puts pressure on the fabric to deploy.
- Textile weakness present but not repaired: Over the years, despite the specific resistance of our fabrics and sewing threads, we recommend systematically checking the good integrity of the vest before use. Indeed, if a seam is weakened, it can give way during a future deployment and thus lead to a consequential tear following the inflation of the membrane.
In the best case, only the textile will need to be repaired. However, without fabric to contain it, the membrane continues to inflate until it potentially gets damaged because the inflation pressure will have exceeded the norm. It will then be necessary to replace the membrane in addition to the textile repair.
Below, an illustration of seams that have given way due to an unsuitable size:

First, before receiving your vest, we record its characteristics and the problem identified by you using the information provided in your online after-sales service form.
Upon receipt of your vest at our premises, we will take care of it. Whenever possible, we repair your vest directly at our premises. The repairs carried out at our premises are as follows:
o Expertise service
o Control box replacement*
o Red ring replacement
o Snap button replacement*
Once the repair has been carried out (and provided your payment has been received), your vest is packed and handed over to Colissimo to reach you as quickly as possible! Generally, we process and return your vests on the day of their receipt at our premises or the next day. We know how quickly this equipment becomes essential for practicing your passion with peace of mind and safety.
For more substantial repairs, such as membrane replacement or textile repairs, we must send your vest to our repair workshops located in Japan (just like our manufacturing workshops, did you know your vest traveled so much before reaching you?).
Sending your vest to our workshops is necessary because we do not have the capacity to carry out such repairs at our Parisian premises.
*Also, some older vest models will also have to travel to have their control box replaced due to their age (e.g., Original "SV2 or LV" model). Similarly, if the damaged snap button is positioned over the membrane, we will not be able to replace it and the vest will have to be sent to our Japanese workshops.
The positive point of such a long journey is that your vest is entirely overhauled by our Japanese team. It is in as good condition as a brand new vest that has just been manufactured.
You can find all the information related to our repair service on our dedicated page.
