Concerned about the environmental impact of this waste, Hit-Air has committed since June 2022 to giving collected metal a second life by implementing a national recycling process.
This process integrates source sorting, collection, treatment, and transformation of waste into recycled raw material.
This initiative is still rare in the airbag market but is proving to be a real success, thanks to you, environmentally conscious users.
More than 2 years after the launch of the system, we are transparently sharing the key figures of this great adventure.
Hit-Air Recycle in figures
In 2023, the launch year, 3,682 cartridges, or less than 1/2 tonne, were collected.
A great first year of investment and discovery for riders, with figures representing 5% of the annual volume of cartridges sold.
And the numbers soared in 2024 : 13,703 cartridges, or 1.6 tonnes, were collected!
This represents 13% of the annual volume of cartridges sold.
13,703 cartridges deposited and recycled by you at our partner saddleries, which allowed you to benefit from a discount with each deposit.
This means no less than €30,000 in vouchers financed by Hit-Air in 2024.

How does Hit-Air Recycle work?
1. Keep your used cartridge
After a fall, the first reflex is often to immediately replace the empty cartridge. From now on, don't throw it away, keep it for recycling.
2. Drop it off at a collection point
Go to a saddlery participating in the Hit-Air Recycle program. A specially designed bin for used cartridge collection awaits you at the checkout.

3. Get an immediate discount
For each cartridge returned, you will receive an immediate discount on the purchase of a new cartridge. The value of this discount is determined by each partner store.
A partnership with PAPREC
To ensure effective and environmentally friendly recycling, Hit-Air has partnered with PAPREC, the French leader in recycling.
A partnership that ensures:
Secure and traceable transportation: PAPREC D3E collects cartridges in approved vehicles.
Specialized treatment: Cartridges are sent to dedicated recycling centers, in collaboration with local partners to limit the carbon impact of transportation.
Once recycled, your cartridges contribute to the manufacture of new objects and materials, thus participating in the transition to a circular economy.

To visualize this system, here is the journey your cartridge takes:

Cartridge collection: Barrels are provided at partner saddleries to centralize used CO2 cartridges.

PAPREC intervention: Waste is collected and transported to a specialized center of the PAPREC D3E group.

Specific treatment: Cartridges are sorted, purified, and shredded in ICPE sites, subject to strict regulations. Recycled metal is reintegrated as raw material.

Traceability: A waste tracking slip accompanies each step, with documents via a platform managed by PAPREC and Hit-Air.
Carbon footprint: Optimization of routes with hybrid vehicles and biofuels to reduce GHG emissions. Recycling allows for the evaluation of avoided emissions and transport CO2 data.
This virtuous approach echoes the 3R "Recyclability, Recycling and Reincorporation of Materials" strategy of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, which aims to recover waste and accelerate the transition towards a circular economy that respects the environment.
In 2024, thanks to our partner saddleries and your commitment, 13,703 cartridges were recycled and €28,912 in discounts were awarded.
